Waitrose depot boosts Coulsdon economy

A new Waitrose distribution centre in Coulsdon, which is set to fulfil one million orders a year for customers living within the M25, has been hailed as a boost for the economy.

The new multi-million pound depot designed to increase the company’s online capacity within the capital by a third has been formally opened by Anna Soubry MP, the minister for small business, industry and enterprise.

“This new distribution centre will create 500 new jobs in Coulsdon and I’m pleased it will also offer apprenticeship opportunities,” said Ms Soubry. “It’s a boost for consumers and for the local economy.”

Waitrose.com distribution centre manager Andy Kirby said: “Our investment in this state of the art centre will allow us to build our online business while creating career opportunities for local people.

“We’re delighted that the minister has joined us to celebrate this exciting development for our business.”
