The Oakwood Group has been awarded a resolution to grant planning permission for 74 new flats at Addiscombe Grove close to East Croydon Station.
London Borough of Croydon approved the innovative development of studios, and one, two and three bedroom flats, plus a small ground floor commercial unit, which will be built over eight to 12 floors.
In addition the development will feature a 123 square feet indoor community space and children’s play area, which will open out onto a small courtyard. There will also be a spacious roof terrace for use by residents.
Work on the site is due to start in the summer with the first flats expected to be ready for occupancy by June 2019.
Commenting on the planning committee’s decision, Oakwood Director Matt Arnold said: “This is very good news – our aim is to develop a scheme that everyone in the area can be proud of."
The Oakwood Group, which is celebrating its 30th year in business, is currently working on a series of major residential and mixed use projects. The firm has managed the building process for 218 homes in the Croydon area, with 97 ongoing and 141 planned.
As with previous projects, Oakwood held public consultations to discuss the Addiscombe Grove plans with existing residents in the area. At the planning meeting there were only two objections lodged against the application, both of which came from the nearby United Reformed Church.
Mr Arnold all the local residents who attended the public consultations and who had “taken such an active role in the design process.”
“The continued support we have received to date has been gratefully received and is hugely encouraging,” he added.
