Almost 600 people welcomed London Mozart Players (LMP) to their new home at St John the Evangelist Church in Upper Norwood at the weekend.
LMP held the family concert to celebrate their move to the church at a special free event, with music, art, and performance, plus food and drink stalls, on Sunday afternoon (23rd October).
The Mayor of Croydon, Cllr Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, welcomed the Players to St John’s and announced the orchestra’s new programme of community work across the London Borough. He said he’d rarely seen a church feeling so vibrant and that the community had given LMP a very warm welcome.
The orchestra, members of the Develop Croydon Forum, moved to Upper Norwood after the closure in the summer of its previous home, Fairfield Halls in Croydon.
On 3rd December, LMP and collaborators Bach to Baby, will be launching the UK’s first large-scale orchestral concert suitable for children at St John the Evangelist. London Mozart Players, whose Patron is His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, was founded in 1949. The orchestra was based in Fairfield Halls from 1989.
