Menta Redrow unveil exciting new Morello vision

New proposals for phase two of the Morello Quarter next to East Croydon station have been displayed at a public consultation event.

A fresh vision for Menta Redrow’s scheme has been drawn up by architects Make to compliment first stage which is nearing completion on the site of the former Bank of America premises in Cherry Orchard Road.

Instead of original plans for a 55-storey, for which Menta was granted planning consent in 2011, the joint venture is proposing to deliver around 340 homes for market sale in two blocks of 25-storeys, with the layout of the buildings providing the opportunity for new green spaces to be created.

In addition, a further 100 homes are proposed on a shared ownership basis in Cherry Orchard Gardens on the other side of Cherry Orchard Road.

Two options for a building layout are being considered, one following the elegant curve of Cherry Orchard Road and a large garden maximising space between the new building and homes in Oval Road; while a second may allow for the retention of four mature trees but with less garden space would be nearer the existing development.

Menta Redrow is also committed to delivering Cherry Orchard Place, a new square with steps into East Croydon railway station, along with a community station hub – a two-level podium on each side of Cherry Orchard Place to potentially include a café, flexible co-working space and community meeting places, with the potential to support around 100 jobs.

The Morello II team featured GL Hearn as planning consultant and community engagement with WSP Parsons Brincherhoff responsible for transport planning.
