Record number of ‘outstanding’ entries for Croydon business awards

Entrepreneurs in one of south London’s fastest growing economies are celebrating after making the 2018 Shortlist of the Croydon Business Excellence Awards in association with Willmott Dixon.

A record 100 entries were shortlisted thanks to the “outstanding depth and quality” of submissions from over 80 Croydon businesses and entrepreneurs.

The independent adjudicator who drew up the list, business consultant Paul Hadfield, said this year’s exceptionally high standard made it difficult to decide who got through to the next round of judging.

“I was really impressed, not only by the number of entries but also the outstanding depth and quality of the submissions,” said Paul, who has been a business development and management training consultant for over 30 years.

“Several categories were particularly hotly contested, include SME Excellence. Women in Business and Tech and Innovation.”

Paul also praised the young entrepreneurs who entered the new Inspirational Young Person of the Year category. He commented: “These are amazing young people with great ideas, who are just going ahead and making things happen – they really impressed me.”

The other new category for 2018, Love Your Local Trader, sponsored by the London Borough of Croydon, is voted for by members of the public. People can now vote for their favourite local business by visiting www.croydonawards.co.uk/localtrader and making their selection before the deadline of 21st August, 2018.

The winners, including the Croydon Business of the Year, will be announced at a glittering black-tie event, compered by a celebrity host, at the luxurious Grand Sapphire Hotel and Banqueting Hall on Thursday, 4th October. Tickets are on sale now at: www.croydonawards.co.uk

Praising the overall range and size of businesses entering the 2018 awards, Paul Hadfield noted that a significant number of larger businesses have entered this year. Many have only moved to Croydon in recent years, and Paul said this is a sign that the borough is booming.

“I think it’s a clear that Croydon is now an attractive place for larger companies to do business – which is great for the long-term growth and sustainability of the Croydon economy.”

There are still opportunities to sponsor the awards. For more information please contact Vivien Newbould at vnewbould@wlcreative.org.uk
