Croydon’s newest cultural magnet will be unveiled next Saturday (11 August) from 12-4pm, at an Open Day for the ASC Studios – Grafton Quarter.
One of London’s largest artists’ workspace charities, The Artists’ Studio Company, has purchased the new-build property to offer 104 purpose-built affordable studios for fine artists, designer-makers and not-for-profit arts charities.
Studio rents will be 20%-30% below market value, starting at only £43 per week for a 120sqft space inclusive of everything. No business rates will be payable.
The development has been designed specifically for artists’ and designer-makers’ use with oversized doors, high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, large double height gallery, brush rooms, break out areas and gas heating.
The development marks another highlight of Croydon’s transformation into a thriving cultural and creative hub.
Councillor Oliver Lewis, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport said: “Croydon’s reputation as an artistic and cultural hub is growing, and the arrival of the ASC Art House is another example of how the creative arts are contributing to the borough’s transformation. I encourage any local artists to go along to the Open Day and see what this fantastic development has to offer. In addition to a £5.25 billion regeneration programme, Croydon is becoming an even greater place to live, work and do business.”
Peter Flack, Chief Executive of the Artists’ Studio Company said: “There is a lot of creative talent already in Croydon, and moving into the area. I want this project be totally Croydon-focused, supporting the borough’s local artists and designer-makers for years to come.”
