Croydon is inviting applications for a place on a panel which will help to shape architectural designs in the borough.
As reported on Develop Croydon in April, the local authority is creating a Place Review Panel to look at future major planning applications with a view to enhancing the quality of the built environment.
The tender is now open and live for applications and anyone interested in being part of the panel has until 10.30am on Monday, September 5 to apply via the London Tenders portal.
Heather Cheesbrough, director of planning and strategic transport at Croydon Council, said: “The council is looking to recruit approximately 20 high calibre panellists, encompassing expertise in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, conservation, engineering, placemaking and culture.
“The Design Review Panel is one method we can use to try to raise the whole design debate and standard, but also to send out a very bold statement that Croydon expects fundamentally good design.”
Members of the panel of will carry out reviews of all major construction proposals in Croydon before full planning applications are submitted.
They will provide locally-sensitive, impartial advice and help assess the design merits of key development proposals.
Councillor Alison Butler, cabinet member for homes and regeneration, said: “We’re looking forward to bringing together an exciting and high-calibre group of experts to help us continue to change people’s perceptions of Croydon and create a destination of choice.”
