Purley businesses have voted to establish their own business improvement district, the third to be created in the borough of Croydon.
Following on from the BIDs in Croydon and New Addington town centre, the aim is to give local businesses a greater say in improving their area as a place to live, shop and work.
Purley BID, which will be officially launched on February 1 next year, has pledged to focus on improving accessibility and parking; image and marketing; a cleaner and greener environment; safer streets; and business engagement.
Councillor Toni Letts, cabinet member for economy and jobs, said: “I’m delighted Purley businesses have voted to have their own business improvement district, something that is great news for Purley.
“A Purley BID will give a strong voice to Purley businesses and see that this vital district centre is able to unlock its growth potential.
“It is perfectly poised to benefit directly from the regeneration in Croydon town centre, and I look forward to Purley BID replicating the success of our two other BIDs in Croydon and New Addington.”
Simon Cripps, chief executive of Purley BID, said: “This is a great result for Purley. It shows that Purley business owners really want to invest in making the town better for everyone.
“We are really looking forward to delivering the benefits the BID will bring over the next five years.”
