A new addition is appearing on Croydon’s skyline as Bellway London’s Vista 24 takes shape.
Rising up next to East Croydon Station, the new development sits on the site of the former Job Centre Plus in Dingwall Road.
The 181-apartment scheme will consist of a main 24-storey block linked by a private first-floor central garden to a second nine-storey block.
Laura Cassullo, Director of Broadway Malyan, said: “The main tower responds to the stepped sequence of its neighbours with the creation of a ‘shoulder’ that provides a private sky garden for residents, while also creating an elegant and memorable silhouette within the town’s emerging cityscape.”

The new building’s glass reinforced concrete frame has been designed to reflect the modernist forms seen in the surrounding streets, as well as the environment which is emerging along Dingwall Road.

The development’s design and use of materials subtly echo John Whitgift, a well-known 16th century Archbishop of Canterbury who held a summer residence in the town.
Laura said: “Whitgift remains a prominent figure in Croydon – the main shopping centre is named after him and his family crest is prominent on Croydon’s coat of arms.
“There is also a strong historical record of his life in the town.
“The façade concept for this development is a charcoal tone with a golden perforated material at ground level and on the balconies.
“This references the black and gold ‘Whitgift Cross’ on Croydon’s coat of arms as well as the fact Croydon was a main charcoal producer for London in the 18th century.
“The historic Whitgift Palace was accessed from the High Street, and aspects of the design subtly reference the palace’s original aesthetics.
“For example, the decorative patterns and textures of the palace’s Great Hall are celebrated in the golden balcony design.”
The first apartments at Vista 24 are set to be released for sale in 2021.
