To celebrate its 70th birthday, the London Mozart Players has scheduled a programme of engagements in some of London’s most prestigious concert halls for their 2018/2019 season.
In 2019 LMP also marks its thirtieth year as a resident orchestra for Croydon and with the anniversary year coinciding with the reopening of Croydon’s Fairfield Halls, they will be taking part in the relaunch of this prestigious venue with a 70th birthday gala concert hosted by their patron HRH The Earl of Wessex.
In 2014, LMP became the first UK orchestra to be both artistically and administratively player-led, while in 2016 they moved to the church of St John the Evangelist in Upper Norwood. This magnificent Victorian church and its congregation have taken the orchestra to its heart, and they have been rewarded with performances by world-class musicians such as Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Nicola Benedetti and Leonard Elschenbroich. Keeping classical music local and relevant through collaborations with performers across the musical spectrum within the community, extending their reach to a whole new audience.
From their new home they also launched the award-winning #LMPOnTheMove series, sponsored by Arts Council England and including a live film score on top of a shopping mall car park and a house music set at Boxpark with young DJ/producer Shift K3Y. This ground-breaking series showcased classical music in a whole new way in Croydon, expanding the orchestra’s reach far beyond what it has ever been.
