Plannings applications for a major residential-led regeneration scheme and a bridge linking East Croydon station with Addiscombe will be heard in the new year.
The Morello Quarter Phase II development is set to go before the planning committee in January following the recent completion of the first phase in Cherry Orchard Road.
The gateway development, featuring two 25-storey towers plus a building of five to nine storeys, would also complete the public East Croydon bridge link that will connect central Croydon, the transport links and the Addiscombe community. Craig Marks, chief executive of Menta, said: “Menta Redrow would like to thank local people for all their support. The team has listened and explored feedback over the last few months.
“We are committed to delivering a desirable place to live and work, with quality homes and new community spaces.
“We are also committed to delivering better links to shops and public transport and will fund, build and install the new bridge link, subject to necessary Network Rail and Croydon Council consents.”
The scheme also includes a shared ownership element as well as café culture retail on the ground floor, creating a sense of arrival at the new station entrance.
The plans include the creation of new play spaces for residents plus basement parking to ensure clutter-free landscaped public spaces.
Ricardo Rossetti, planning director at Redrow, said: “Subject to planning permission, we are working towards starting on site in 2018.” The first phase of the development, featuring 297 new homes, is now complete and almost sold out.
