Conference 2017: New George Street tower to be open in 2019

The planned new 45-storey tower at 101 George Street should be complete by the end of 2019.

Simon Bayliss, Managing Partner of HTA Design who are working on the project alongside Tide Construction Ltd, gave an update on the module-built housing development at Croydon Park Hotel on Tuesday.

“I think the latest planning meeting was this morning, so we are reaching the final phase of planning now,” he told the Develop Croydon 2017 Conference. “So we hope to get consent passed at end of month.

“This is going to be a build to rent tower, 45 storeys, fully modular based construction with a-24 month build period, so we should be complete by the end of 2019.”

Bayliss gave a brief presentation, ahead of a panel discussion on housing, on the benefits of modular construction – where individual ‘modules’ are put together at a factory before being transferred to site – that he believes will play a crucial role in the regeneration of the borough.

“This opportunity in Croydon comes at a time when modular construction is, we believe, coming of age,’ he said.

“Our work is almost exclusively in the housing sector, with a few masterplans around London.

“We are already building homes in Coulsdon – which shows the unique opportunity Croydon offers with the urban infrastructure in the town combined with some really rural developments as well.”
