Five Guys intends to open a new restaurant in Croydon in the autumn. The American fast food change, famed for its burgers, hotdogs and milkshakes, is converting the former Yates’s pub in High Street into a 209-seat venue. The new venture, Five Guys’ 15th in the capital, will create more than 40 jobs and joins more than 1,000 restaurants worldwide.

More than 12,000 people attended last year’s festival in the famous Croydon Restaurant Quarter in the town’s South End. And organisers, the South Croydon Business Association, say this year’s alfresco dining event, sponsored by Leon House, will be even bigger and better.

Fun and games will take their place alongside food and drink at a new venue opening in Surrey Street later this summer. The Ludoquist is promising to be a ‘board game café’ serving up around 700 board games alongside craft beer, coffee, snacks and bowl food – easibly edible sharing dishes – along with paninis and cakes. The exact location and opening date are still to be confirmed.
A multiple award-winning Addiscombe pub has rebranded. The Claret & Ale, near to the tram stop, is continuing to serve the range of bitters which has made the pub a regular winner of CAMRA Real Ale Awards.
