Vinci appointed to bring forward new Fairfield Halls

A contractor that has worked on a number of major projects in Croydon has been appointed to deliver the next stage of Fairfield Halls’ £30million transformation.

As the first phase of refurbishment draws to a close, Croydon Council’s development company, Brick by Brick, has engaged Vinci Construction UK following a competitive tendering process.

Vinci Construction UK has worked on several major developments in the borough, including Altitude 25, Fairfield Road and the Ashburton Learning Village in Shirley Road.

Since the venue closed last summer, Brick by Brick has had contractors on site carrying out enabling works to prepare the building for the main structural works.

Over the past 10 months, work behind the hoardings has included detailed surveys, ground investigations, asbestos removal and the stripping of loose fixtures and fittings, such as flooring, ceilings and soft furnishings.

Jason Griffiths, regional director of Vinci Construction UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be appointed on this prestige project at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, and look forward to delivering a first-class restoration project with the client and their wider team.”

Also this month, the council is set to sign contracts with BHLive, the preferred operator to run Fairfield Halls when it reopens.

Shifa Mustafa, the council’s executive director for place, added: “The timing has enabled us to ensure that the operator and refurbishment contractor are able to get together at the earliest opportunity to influence and strengthen aspects of the design.”
