Nine employers have been accredited under the new Good Employer Croydon scheme, with a further 37 having pledged their commitment to the innovative programme.
The award-winning companies and organisations are Brick by Brick, The Campaign Company, Classique Care Services, Croydon Council, Dotmailer, Ikea, Mind in Croydon, Sussex Innovation Croydon and White Label Creative.
Meanwhile a series of events are being held in Croydon to support the campaign, which is designed to encourage companies to create job opportunities, use local supply chains, ensure employees are paid a fair wage and promote equality and diversity.
They are:
April 25: Buy Local Breakfast Briefing at TMRW Hub – a chance to hear about the opportunities to increase your sales through local procurement;
May 2-5: Promo Week for Croydon Works in the Whitgift Centre with Mullalley, HMP Downview and Chequers among those promoting their business and vacancies;
May 24: Your Future Workforce: An event hosted at TMRW Hub by Croydon Council in partnership with Croydon College, John Ruskin College, Coulsdon College and Croydon Adult Learning & Training to help businesses gain excess to potential employers of the future
Councillor Jamie Audsley, who is leading on the initiative, said: “As the economic growth of our borough continues we want to ensure that the benefits of regeneration work for the people of Croydon.
“The long-term vision is to create a dynamic, diverse and inclusive Croydon economy, harnessing everyone’s creativity and potential to ensure long-term sustainable growth and good that benefits all those who live and work here.”
Winning companies are presented with a certificate declaring them as a good employer and a member of the good employer network. Paying the London Living Wage, a voluntary hourly rate set independently by the Living Wage Foundation, is a prerequisite of winning the accreditation.
Jo Gumb, director of creative marketing and events company White Label, which was formed seven years ago, said: “This is a really important initiative to showcase those businesses which support Croydon’s workforce.
“Since we formed with a vision of how we can make Croydon a better place, our relationship with local businesses has been key to our success.”
