High point for new office block

A topping-out ceremony has been held at Schroder UK Real Estate Fund and Stanhope’s Ruskin Square development in Croydon, to celebrate the first office building reaching its highest point.

Designed by shedkm this important construction milestone is the last major hurdle before the scheme’s first commercial building reaches practical completion by the end of the year.

Once completed, the building will provide Croydon’s business community with 180,000 sq ft of brand new office space with up to 21,000 sq ft per floor over nine storeys, and a further 11,000 sq ft of restaurant and café space on the ground and first floors.

LendLease are responsible for the construction of the building and have now started the final phase of works, including glazing, cladding and roofing.

Located adjacent to East Croydon Station, Ruskin Square is set to offer a total of 625 new homes, 100,000 sq ft of restaurants and shops and 1.25 million sq ft of new commercial space, all set within attractive new outdoor public space. The 2 million sq ft development is beginning to take shape with the first residential building anticipated to complete in August, whilst pop-up retail mall concept, Box Park, is set to open in the autumn.

Commenting on the next phase of activity, Jason Margrave, Development Director at Stanhope Plc, said: “With the first office building reaching its highest point and the final phase of works now underway, we are progressing at a good pace towards practical completion by the end of the year.

"Coupled with the delivery of the first residential building in the summer and the progress being made at BoxPark, Ruskin Square is beginning to take real shape as we deliver our aim of creating a vibrant new place to live, work and shop in the heart of Croydon.”
