Ruskin Square development gathering momentum

A landmark office scheme will reach its full height within the next month as Croydon’s two million sq ft Ruskin Square development continues to take shape.

Lendlease, who are responsible for construction of the first office building, has now started with the cladding, glazing and roofing elements, signalling the last step ahead of the building reaching its full nine-storeys tall.

Once completed by the end of the year, the building will provide Croydon’s business community with 180,000 sq ft of brand new office space with up to 21,000 sq ft per floor over nine storeys, and a further 11,000 sq ft of restaurant and café space on the ground and first floors.

The nine acre Ruskin Square site, will deliver five new office buildings in total, comprising 1.25 million sq ft of new commercial space for prospective occupiers.

Owners Schroder UK Real Estate Fund and development partner Stanhope Plc, recently received planning consent for the second office building, which will total 200,000 sq ft over 12 upper storeys of around 17,500 sq ft each. This second building will similarly include dedicated restaurant and café accommodation on the ground floor

Alongside office buildings, Ruskin Square, which is situated adjacent to East Croydon station, will provide Croydon with 625 new homes, shops and restaurants, and attractive new outdoor public space. The first residential building is due for completion this summer, whilst pop-up mall concept, BoxPark, will open in late summer.

Commenting on the next phase of activity, Jason Margrave, development director at Stanhope Plc, said: “With the first office building now entering its final stages of delivery, this demonstrates the significant momentum we are making on site. With the first phase of homes set to be delivered this summer, closely followed by the opening of BoxPark, the initial elements of this thriving and vibrant new destination are visibly coming to life.”
