Top-class cycling is returning to Croydon for a second year when it hosts the penultimate round of this year’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series.
Following the success of last year’s visit, when thousands of people lined the streets, Croydon will again be a key component of the unique team based town and city centre series.
However this year’s race on Tuesday, June 7 will be held on a brand new course, helping to solve some of last year’s logistical issues by avoiding crossing over the tram tracks in the town centre.
The series begins on the Isle of Man on Thursday, May 12 and finishes five weeks later in Portsmouth on Thursday, June 9, also visiting the likes of Edinburgh, Durham and Stoke-on-Trent along the way.
Like last year, Croydon will hold a men’s and women’s race won last year respectively by Marcin Bialoblocki of ONE Pro Cycling and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Charline Joiner of Team WNT.
Highlights of the Croydon round will once again be screened on ITV4.
Leading the six British UCI Continental level teams that will compete at every round of the Pearl Izumi Tour Series in 2016 are defending champions Madison Genesis. They will be joined by NFTO, Pedal Heaven, 2014 champions JLT Condor presented by Mavic, Team Raleigh GAC and Team WIGGINS, the team led by Bradley Wiggins.
Further details of the 2016 women’s series will be announced in the coming weeks, including the line-up of teams who will be competing in the six-round Series.
