Work has begun on a 25-storey block of flats overlooking the Croydon Flyover.
Brick by Brick, the Croydon Council owned developer, were given the green light last year to build 128 new homes in the Wandle Road Surface Car Park in the town centre.
Work has now started on site and the finished building, which will be called Kindred House, is due to be completed in March 2021.
The block will be made up of one to three-bedroom flats, with half offered at affordable rents or shared ownership.
Plans for the lower floors include a cafe and gym as well as offices and shops. There will be 10 disabled parking spaces and secure storage for 214 bikes and for the residents there will be a communal roof garden on the 22nd floor.
