Skillcrown start work on £25m Old Town housing development

Skillcrown have begun work on a £25 million development to deliver 113 new homes to Croydon’s historic Old Town.

The development on Cairo New Road will provide a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments for shared ownership and affordable rent on behalf of Housing Association, Optivo.

Construction has begun on a part four and part 14 storey structure, with space for a retail unit on the ground floor.
In addition to the new homes, renovation to the public realm close to the site and a listed former mission hall are to be carried out to improve the landscape of the immediate area.

“We are delighted to be working with Optivo as part of the housing boom in Croydon in creating opportunities for people get onto the property ladder,” said Salik Osman, Managing Director at Skillcrown.

“It’s the ideal time for people to snap up a property in Croydon with Westfield Shopping Centre on the horizon and other regeneration projects taking shape.”

An Optivo spokesman said: “Skillcrown sourced the location and came to us with a proposal we couldn’t turn down. We’ve had previous experience working with the team and are confident this new development will be popular in Croydon.”
