The Oakwood Group and AmicusHorizon have received planning consent to build 81 new homes on the former Milton House site close to the centre of Croydon.
The £21m development of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and a small number of three bedroom houses, as well as 1,900 sqm of commercial floorspace, will transform a dilapidated site on Milton Road and Gloucester Road.
Planning permission was granted by the London Borough of Croydon last Monday (January 4th). Work to demolish the existing buildings – disused offices and warehouses – will begin in April. The construction of the new homes is expected to take 20 months.
Welcoming the news, Councillor Toni Letts said: “The development in Milton Road, will not only regenerate the area whilst creating homes and small businesses, but equally show that our gateways into Croydon Town Centre and District Centres are vital to the whole success of Croydon.”
The Oakwood Group will keep local residents informed throughout the build and aim to minimise the impact of the construction work on the community.

Local resident Stephen Moore, who has lived on Milton Road for four years, said he is “absolutely delighted” that the development has won planning consent.
He commented: “There is so much regeneration going on in Croydon – Westfield coming, Saffron Square, Boxpark, Ruskin Square – and on my road is one of the biggest eyesores in the town. So this new development means Milton Road is catching up with the rest of Croydon.
“It will tidy up the road and bring new people here – it will just regenerate the area. It’s a good road but the only problem is the old Milton House.”
Matt Arnold said that The Oakwood Group had put the community “at the very heart of the proposed scheme” and that great care and attention to detail has been paid to the design and layout of the entire development.
